LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has finalised Ali Asjad Malhi as its candidate for NA-75 (Daska) by-election.

Mr Malhi lost the 2018 election to PML-N’s Syed Iftikharul Hassan, who died from coronavirus. PTI spokespersons say Mr Malhi lost elections because another contender for the party ticket, Usman Abid, eventually contested the election as an independent candidate.

Mr Malhi bagged 61,432 votes, while independent candidate Mr Abid got 57,571 votes. PML-N’s Mr Hassan won with 101,617 votes. Mr Malhi served the constituency as an MNA during Gen Parvez Musharraf regime following 2002 general elections.
