Nine farmers booked for water theft

DADU, Oct 5: Nine farmers were booked for stealing water from the Johi branch on Wednesday. A team of irrigation officials and Rangers conducted raids at different waterways of Johi. They found the evidence of water stealing from the Haji Khan, Bothro, Jagir and Ahmed Khan watercourses and sealed them.

Later, the sub-engineer of the branch, Zulfiqar Ali, registered an FIR against Abbas Qambrani, Ali Nawaz Naich, Anwar Jamali, Abdul Rasool Naich, Azeem Naich, Munawar Jamali, Nawab Jamali, Abdul Majeed Jamali and Mohammad Khan Jamali.

A large number of growers led by the chairman of the Abadgar Association, Ghulam Qadir Rind, staged a protest demonstration against artificial shortage of water and registration of cases against the farmers.

ANTI-POLIO CAMPAIGN: The project director of the Sindh Expanded Programme on Immunization, Dr Khadim Hussain Lakhair, has said that the 56th round of polio vaccination will start from November 22.

He was speaking at a meeting about polio eradication and routine immunization at the EDO health office here on Wednesday.

Dr Lakhair said that 55 rounds of the polio vaccination had already been completed in Sindh. He said the WHO was spending Rs20 million on every round to control the disease in the province.

He said three cases of polio were detected in Sindh out of 18 total cases in Pakistan in the year 2005.

He feared that polio cases would increase if proper vaccination was not provided to children.

Those who attended the meeting were EDO health Dr Dhani Bux Thebo, Khairpur Nathan Shah Taluka Health Officer Dr Anwar Ali Murtaza Shah, Mehar THO Dr Mohammad Sadiq Landhar, Johi THO Dr Aziz Ahmed, Dadu THO Dr Rasheed Ahmed Qureshi and the district focal person EPI, Dr Javed Ahmed Dawach.

EDO health Dr Dhani Bux Thebo informed the meeting that 55 motorbikes, 35 bicycles and four rickshaws were provided to the vaccinators in the district to reach remote areas easily.

He said that 61 refrigerators and 61 standby generators were also given to the basic health units of far-flung areas to store medicines.

ROBBERY: A robbery case was registered against PPP leader and former MPA Ghulam Shah Jilani and 13 others at the Tando Rahim Khan police station on Wednesday.

Police registered an FIR against the MPA, his son Syed Mohammad Saleh Shah, his uncle Syed Shahan Shah, Sujawal Alkhani, Qadir Bux Gabol, Ghulam Nabi Lashari and others, for snatching Rs9,450 and a wrist watch from Haji Gul Baig Shahani, a resident of Chhinni village.
