KASUR: Two brothers were gunned down and their third brother and a passerby suffered serious injuries as rivals opened indiscriminate fire on them to settle an old score on Wednesday at Khudian Adda on Dipalpur Road in the limits of the Khudian police station.

The animosity has already claimed about half a dozen lives from both groups - Khalil Group and Sabir Group - of village Jhugian Chohd.

According to the police, brothers Ashiq, Sabir, Maskeen and Zafar allegedly shot dead a man of the rival group some one year back and were nominated in the FIR. During investigation, police declared three brothers innocent and Ashiq was challaned. The Khalil group had grievances over the release of the accused.

The three brothers -- Sabir, Maskeen and Zafar -- were going to district courts on a rickshaw from their village Jhugian in connection with the murder case when they came under attack. Suspects riding a motorcycle sprayed bullets on them at Khudian Adda, leaving Sabir and Maskeen, who were sitting on the back seat of a rickshaw, dead while Zafar sustained injuries. Also, passerby Muhammad Ibrahim suffered injuries. The injured were rushed to the Khudian Rural Health Centre and the bodies to the DHQ Hospital.
