UMERKOT: Provincial Election Commissioner Aijaz Anwar Chohan on Monday held a meeting with the district returning officers (DROs), returning officers (ROs), and other subordinate officials to review the arrangements for the PS-52 Umerkot-II by-election scheduled for January 18.

The by-election was to be held on April 15 for which all arrangements were finalised but had to be postponed on March 23 on account of Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in the country.

He noted that 50 polling stations had been declared ‘sensitive’, adding that assistance of Sindh Rangers and Pakistan Army could be sought in case of a serious law and order situation anywhere in the polling area.

Regional election commissioner Masood Ahmed Quraishi, district monitoring officer Shah Nawaz Brohi and ADC-I Subhash Chander were among the other officials who attended the meeting.
