Wapda crowned champions

LAHORE: A solitary goal from Larosh Khalid was enough for Wapda to clinch their maiden National Challenge Cup title.

Larosh struck 15 minutes from time as Wapda, Pakistan football’s storied powerhouses, edged past Sui Southern Gas Company 1-0 in the final at the Punjab Stadium on Sunday.

Wapda ended a run of three final defeats since 2002 while the loss meant Tariq Lutfi’s star-studded SSGC lost out in the final for a second successive year.

Earlier on Sunday, a sixth-minute strike from Qadeer Hussain helped Pakistan Army scrape past Karachi Port Trust in the third-place match.
