PESHAWAR: Customs officials at the Torkham border crossing foiled a bid to smuggle two black bear cubs from Afghanistan into Pakistan.

A statement issued here on Sunday said the cubs were recovered late on Saturday and shifted to the Peshawar Zoo in the early hours of Sunday after consultation with the provincial wildlife department.

It said both the cubs were hidden in a sack and found during checking of pedestrians. The animals are said to be in stable condition.
