KARAK: Women blocked the Karak-Sabirabad Road to traffic here on Saturday to protest against the staff of the Ehsaas Kifalat Centre for allegedly demanding bribe from them for payment of the financial assistance.

The protesters hailing from far off localities said they had been visiting the Ehsaas Kifalat Centre daily for last few days but returned without getting the financial assistance. They alleged that those who had connections were paid the assistance on a priority, while the others were kept waiting for days.

The protesting women alleged that the staff of the centre received from Rs200 or Rs300 from each applicant to be paid the money. They also accused the staff of misbehaving with the stipend seekers.

The protesters said last week they had also staged a protest demonstration against the attitude of the staff but no action was taken against the erring officials.

The women resolved to continue the protest till intervention of the district administration to ensure smooth provision of financial assistance to them.
