Health hazard feared in Mardan

MARDAN, Oct 3: Contaminated water in Hoti and Mardan areas are posing threat to health of the residents of the areas as most of the under ground pipelines were broken and drain water was mixing into it.

The eight-inch diameter cement pipes were laid in 1973 in Hoti, where now about 100,000 people were residing, were in very bad shape and drain water was seeping through it.

Though the pipes were in bad shape for the last several months but now the situation has been aggravated and the contaminated water was posing great threat to the lives of the residents particularly to the children.

Drinking water from these pipes was available to Babu Khel, Mohammad Khel, Hodi Khel, Ajat Khel, Saway Khandar, Mahallah Bajauri, Noorman Khel and Sherdil Khan Mahallah. The residents of these localities were consume this contaminated water which is very dangerous for their health. Similarly, pipes in Mahallah Biland Khel, Azi Khel, Kooz Mohammad Khel, Qazi Khel, Naziran Palao and Garhi Khan Khel were also broken and the residents were forced to drink contaminated water.

This menace has been brought into the notice of Member National Assembly and local Member Provincial Assembly, Maulana Shujaul Mulk and Amanat Shah Kashmiri, who promised during last Union Councils (UCs) election campaign but now the problems has been forgotten.

Meanwhile, Mardan Wolassi Jirga has warned that if the issue was not tackled immediately, then the responsibility would be on the shoulders of the concerned officials and elected representatives.
