Call to end fortnightly revision

Published October 4, 2005

LAHORE, Oct 3: The All Road Transport Workers Union has demanded discontinuation of fortnightly oil price revisions and bringing of transport workers under social security cover.

These demands were voiced by union president Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhry, secretary-general Sher Nawab Khan and other office-bearers in a press conference at the Lahore Press Club here on Monday.

They said the discontinuation of frequent oil price revisions was necessary because it destabilized the economy.

Similarly, they said that bringing of transport sector under the social security cover was essential because they were under-paid and overworked and could not save money for their old age.

They also stressed the need for rationalizing the taxes in the transport sector and elimination of corruption in traffic checking agencies.
