GILGIT, Jan 20: Northern Areas were in the grip of a severe cold on Sunday, badly affecting the normal life in the area.

Gilgit, the headquarters of Northern Areas, experienced the coldest day on Sunday when the minimum temperature fell to minus seven degrees centigrade.

The harsh weather has badly affected the water supply system as some areas of Gilgit town were facing water problem. The freezing weather conditions also burst water pipelines.

Nagral, Khomer, Nupura, Minawar and Saqwar villages situated at the base of Gilgit mountains were facing much difficulties as compared to the people of other villages in the town because they were deprived of sunshine.
