THE establishment of the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) is disappointing as it is akin to handing over the noble profession to those who do not belong to the field of medicine. The PMC, as has been said in unambiguous terms by all professional bodies, is totally against the will of the doctors.
The Islamabad High Court had declared the PMC’s establishment unlawful and had ordered the restoration of the erstwhile Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). However, the National Assembly approved the PMC bill without taking medical professionals on board.
This attitude of the legislature towards doctors will definitely decrease their number as they will prefer to go for greener pastures abroad.
