RAWALPINDI: A calligraphy exhibition opened on Wednesday at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) where works of senior artists were showcased.

The exhibition is being held in connection with Hafta Shan-i-Rehmatulil Alameen.

Works of Elahi Bux Matee, Azeem Iqbal, Khawaja Mohammad Hussain, Shabbir Ahmed Zia, Mohammad Younas Roomi, Wajiha Raja, Sania Shabbir, Shumaila and Sauda Tanvir were displayed.

Peace and Culture Organisation chairperson Mushaal Hussein Mullick accompanied by RAC Deputy Director Sajjad Hussain inaugurated the event.

The painters used vibrant colours and applied various mediums including oil paints, pen and pencil in several styles.

Visitors said the works were simple yet attractive, adding that the painters’ maturity and innovation was visible and choice of colour was impressive.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Mullick said the works were impressive and depicted the artists’ love and devotion towards Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), whose teachings and way of life must be adopted by people.

Kashmiris are serving sentences for being Muslims, she said, adding that “The whole world is ignoring Indian atrocities on Kashmiri Muslims. Eight million people are imprisoned in the Indian occupied valley.”
