LAHORE, Sept 30: The standing committee of the National Assembly on railways chairman, Sardar Tufail Ahmad Khan, has questioned the legal status of the executive committee in the presence of the railways board.

Mr Khan raised the objection during the standing committee meeting at the Railways Headquarters on Friday.

The railway ministry gave a detailed briefing to the committee members on the legal status of the executive committee and its parameters. Railways board secretary Zaeem Ahmad Chaudhry briefed the NA committee on working of the executive committee and the railways board.

The committee discussed the type of cases put up to the executive committee for its decisions and the legal status of the railways board. Its chairman also inquired about the number of meetings of the board convened in a year.

The PR general manager clarified that the decisions taken by the executive committee in 2003 had been approved by the board.

The committee members advised the railways management to resolve the problems faced by people on a daily basis.
