LYALLPUR: Six prisoners, who had been awarded death sentence by the Sessions Judge, Lyallpur, managed to escape from the District Jail last night [Nov 11]. …

It is reported that at about 11 p.m. on Wednesday they cut the iron bars of the Jail with the help of a saw and, tying their blankets with sticks and ropes, they prepared a stair and jumped down from the Jail wall and escaped. The seventh [prisoner] was, however, held by Police Guard while he was trying to escape. He allegedly threw bricks on the Jail Guard.

On receiving information, Divisional Commissioner Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam Bajwa and Mr Anisur Rahman D.I.G., Sargodha Range, reached here and inspected the District Jail. The Civil Lines Police have instituted a case under Section 224, 225 and 307 PPC and have started investigation. — Agency

[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in Dacca,] One man died and seven others were receiving treatment in the hospital of the wounds sustained in a clash between the members of rival worker groups at Daulatpur jute baling centre on Tuesday [Nov 10].

Police sources told [agency] over telephone that the situation continued normal as police was patrolling the area. Six new arrests… in this connection raised the total arrests made so far to 13.
