ISLAMABAD: The twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Thursday reported another three deaths from Covid-19.

Moreover, the tally of the patients in the capital reached 22,432 and the death toll increased to 248 as 333 new cases along with one death were reported in the city.

In Rawalpindi, 53 patients tested positive while 28 patients were discharged after recovery.

Officials of the capital administration said most of deaths - 73 - were in the age group of 60-69 years followed by 57 from 70-79, 46 from 50-59, 31 from 80-89, 25 from 40-49, 12 from 30-39, three from 90-99 and one from 20-29.

The most affected age group is 50-59 in which the infection rate per 10,000 is 271 followed by 215 in 60-69, 211 each in 30-39 and 40-49, 188 in 70-79, 155 in 80 and above, 120 in 20-29, and 36 each at 0-9 and 10-19, the officials stated, adding the overall infection rate per 10,000 people in the capital is 109.

The capital has 2,580 active cases, of them 77 have been kept in eight hospitals. Of these, 12 are on ventilators and 60 on oxygen and the condition of five is stable. The rest have been isolated at their homes.

The officials said 6,879 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours and the results of 333 were positive, showing the positivity rate to be 4.9pc.

The officials said 26 cases were reported from G-11 followed by 25 from Tarlai, 22 from F-11, 16 from Bahira Town, 15 from E-11, 14 each from I-8, G-6, 13 from DHA II, 12 each from I-10, G-9, Bhara Kahu, 11 each from G-7, F-8, F-7, 10 from F-6, nine from PWD, eight each from I-9, F-10, six each from Margalla Town, G-15, G-13, Chak Shahzad, five each from Sihala, G-10, Chatha Bakhtawar, four each form Khanna, Ghouri Town, G-8, Banigala, three each from Rawat, Pakistan Town, two each from Police Foundation, Model Town, Jinnah Garden, G-14, E-9, CBR Town, B-17, and one each from Soan Garden, I-14, H-9, H-8, H-14, G-5, F-15, D-17, and D-12.

On Thursday, the capital administration imposed fines worth Rs6,000 on individuals for violation of SOPs. Moreover, 53 people were also arrested during inspections of 142 shops and areas, including 12 mosques and 33 restaurants.

Besides, two hotels, three shops and five restaurants were sealed and Rs33,000 and Rs8,000 fines imposed on other shops and restaurants.

Rawalpindi

Two Covid-19 patients died and 53 people tested positive in the garrison city while 28 confirmed patients were discharged from the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) after recovery.

A woman, aged 67, a resident of Mohallah Waris Khan, was admitted to a private hospital on Wednesday but she died on Thursday morning.

Another woman, aged 67, a resident of Mohallah Rajgan Kahuta, was taken to a private hospital in Islamabad on Wednesday where she died.

Meanwhile, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Rawalpindi closed down its facilitation centre after detecting a positive case of Covid-19 among the staff.

In a press statement, a spokesman for the board said an official deputed at the facilitation centre tested positive.

As many as 8,227 people contracted the deadly virus in the Rawalpindi district in last eight months while 342 people died and 7,387 others were discharged after recovery.

Total 498 confirmed patients are under treatment, including 73 at the HFH. As many as 41 patients belonged to Rawalpindi district while 32 came from outside the district. Besides, 571 people are waiting for their results.
