SAHIWAL, Sept 29: An Anti-Corruption Establishment team comprising deputy directors of investigation and technical wings framed chargesheets against the former district and tehsil nazims after scrutiny of the last four-year record of the district government.

Both nazims are contesting again for their respective offices against the ruling PML nominees for the slots and had refused to withdraw their candidatures.

According to the chargesheets, which will be latter converted into FIRs, the former district nazim Rai Hassan Nawaz had allegedly transferred Rs12 million funds from Sahiwal divisional public school to open a similar school in his native Chichawatni tehsil. Besides, Rs6.4 million were allegedly spent by Mr Nawaz for running a camp office at Chichawatni by misusing his powers.

The former district nazim has also been accused of providing funds for a medical complex at Chichawatni, besides misusing three government vehicles.

Similarly, former tehsil nazim Rana Aamir Shahzad Tahir who is contesting against PML-backed Chaudhry Shabbir Ali Ahmed has also been accused of misappropriation of funds for two development schemes.

It is surprising to note that the ACE teams have recommended no action against the XEN, SDO and the sub-engineer concerned.

The team have also charged Mr Tahir with alleged misappropriation of property transfer fee and misuse of powers to inflict loss to the exchequer.

The two nazims were served notices for appearance before the inquiry team but they did not turn up, the chargesheets said. Meanwhile, the former nazims claimed they were being subjected to vindictive proceedings as they did not succumb to the government pressure to withdraw their candidatures against the PML-nominated candidate Naveed Aslam Lodhi, son-in-law of provincial minister Arshad Khan Lodhi contesting for the district nazim and Chaudhry Shabbir Ali Ahmed.
