Attempt to blow up court thwarted

SARGODHA, Sept 29: Sargodha police foiled an attempt to plant explosives in the district courts early on Thursday morning and arrested an alleged terrorist.

The police had been tipped off that some terrorists had planned to stage terrorists activities in Sargodha. DPO Muhammad Naeem Khan deployed a special team comprising SHO Cantt Sher Bahadur and SHO Jhal Chakian Ehsanmullah Chohan who followed a suspect who was busy planting explosives at the Session Courts Complex at around 6am.

The police seized about three kilogramme of explosives material with a detonator, hand-grenades and a battery.

Some diagrams and addresses of some people were also seized from the accused.

DPO Muhammad Naeem Khan told a press conference that the terrorist belonged to a banned outfit and he disclosed that he had been given the task to carry out blasts at the district courts and other important places, including railway station and bus-stand. He hails from Ralwalpindi and appeared to be in his early 40s. He had received training in Afghanistan and also taken part in the Afghan war.

The DPO said that a case had been registered against the man and a special team for investigation would be set up. He claimed that Sargodha police had broken the network of terrorists.

Mitha Tiwana police had arrested a terrorist from a bus coming from Mianwali. Later some people, including Bashir and Ismaeel, were arrested from Sattelite Town, Sargodha. It is believed that they had disclosed the activities of their network.
