Gwadar is safe

Published November 8, 2020

I HAVE observed that whenever an act of terrorism is committed in the Makran region, Turbat or Kech, news correspondents file the story with a Gwadar dateline. This creates an impression that the city has poor law and order situation and there is a lack of control of provincial government over Gwadar.

I have been travelling to Gwadar since 2003 and bringing in foreign investment. Potential investors feel perturbed by the publication of such news and the misleading dateline that creates uncertainty and shatters confidence.

Also, taking into account the strategic China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project and its sensitivity, news organisations should exercise utmost care in this regard.
