Sailors to take part in Thailand

KARACHI, Sept 28: Pakistani sailors will take part in International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA) Asian championship which will be held in Thailand next month, an official of Pakistan Sailing Federation (PSAF) said on Wednesday.

Secretary PSAF, Captain R. Syed Waqar Hasan said that four-member Pakistan squad accompanied by a manager would take part in the Optimist championship from Oct 29-Nov 6.

He said that the team for the event would be announced within a couple of days.

Waqar said that the South Asian Yachting Regatta (SAYR) which was postponed would now be held in December as the PSAF has received confirmation from the visiting countries of their availability in the month.

The PSAF secretary said that the dates for the event featuring arch-rivals India and Sri Lanka along with host and defending champion Pakistan would be announced later.

SAYR was scheduled to be held on Sept 9-12 at DHA Marina Club, Karachi was postponed due to non-availability of visiting teams.—PPI
