CHINIOT: A polio vaccination team was attacked on Sunday by a villager who allegedly did not approve of the drive.

A health team comprising lady health workers Ghulam Fizza and Zahida Parveen, and area in-charge Muhammad Imran was administering polio vaccine to children in Ahli Langrani village of Lalian tehsil when a villager stopped them and attacked them with an axe. The team was forced out of the village.

Later, police were called in who arrested the suspected assailant, identified as Tahir Abbas, and supervised and protected the vaccination team. Lalian police also registered a case against Abbas.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Riaz took notice of the incident and sought police protection for each polio team in the district. He spoke to Health chief Dr Mushtaq over the phone and directed him to ensure that no child remained unvaccinated.

GIRL RECOVERED: A minor girl kidnapped two days ago was recovered from Gujranwala on Sunday.

Ghulam Abbas and his wife Hayatan Bibi had gone out to get fodder for their cattle in Inayatpur village. When they returned, they found their daughter, Haseena Bibi, 6, missing. They lodged a first information report with Muhammadwala police nominating their relative, Lubna Bibi, for kidnapped the girl.

Through the use of technology, police traced the suspect in Gujranwala upon which Muhammadwala Station House Officer Asad Abbas, along with a police contingent, raided the spot and recovered the girl along with the suspect, Lubna Bibi.

Later, Lubna confessed to the crime, stating that she wanted revenge from Abbas over some dispute.
