QUETTA: Prominent Balochi-language writer and intellectual Sangat Rafiq Baloch was elected unopposed chairman of the Balochi Academy for four years in the election for the academy’s office-bearers held here on Wednesday.

According to the election commission, headed by Malik Zahoor Ahmed Shahwani, all other office bearers and executive committee members were also elected unopposed as no other candidates had filed nomination papers till Oct 24, the last date for the filing of nomination papers.

Other office-bearers who were elected include Hebatan Omar as vice chairman, Dr Bezin Saba as general secretary, Zakir Qadir as publications secretary and Zahir Jan Jamaldini as finance secretary.

Mumtaz Yousuf, Mohammad Panah Baloch, Genghis Isa and Shakeel Ahmed Baloch were elected members of the executive committee of the Balochi Academy.

The annual general body meeting of the Balochi Academy will be held on Nov 1 in which annual performance report of the previous body will be presented and new office-bearers will take oath of their offices.
