LAHORE: Professor of ENT Dr Mohammad Amjad has been given additional charge of principal of the Services Institute of Medical Sciences after the retirement of Prof Dr Mahmood Ayaz.

A notification was issued by the Punjab government here on Wednesday. Prof Amjad was third on the seniority list all over the province.

An interesting aspect of this development is that his predecessor Prof Ayaz Mahmood retired as principal of the SIMS/Services Hospital on Oct 16 while the specialized healthcare department Punjab kept the seat vacant since then.

An official said a specific lobby in the health department wanted to accommodate a doctor of choice by giving him additional charge of the post in question. However, it revised its decision on the protest of some senior medics.
