ISLAMABAD: Two fair price shops will be established in each sector in the capital to provide green groceries to residents at the rate they are sold in the fruit and vegetable market, sources told Dawn.

According to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Hamza Shafqaat, all cash and carry businesses offered to assist the administration by providing two shops in each sector’s commercial market and asked officials to name them fair price shops.

This offer was made during a meeting held between the administration and representatives of trader associations including retailers of milk, meat, bread and poultry to discuss inflation. He said all associations assured that there would be no increase in the prices of edibles.

He said he would monitor the rates along with the magistrate himself and traders agreed to cooperate in controlling the price hike, adding the situation will be under control in a week’s time.

Associations offered their support towards increasing the number of days of Sasta Bazaars to three days and assured cooperation in establishing small stalls selling edibles in main markets.
