QUETTA, Jan 19: In all an amount of Rs 1.75 billion has been allocated to district governments for development schemes and it is now up to district administration to devise projects for their districts and implement them immediately.

This was stated by Balochistan Governor Amirul Mulk Mengal while presiding over a meeting of Nazims of Loralai, Panjgur, Gwadar, Turbat, Awaran, Kharan and Chagai here on Saturday.

He stressed that they should fulfil their duties and work for public welfare impartially and irrespective of politics and pay special attention to law and order situation.

Regarding education, the governor said:” According to new system, education sector comes under district governments. It is necessary for them to work for improvement of education on priority basis and utilize education fund honestly for its uplift.”

Later, the Nazims apprised the governor of their problems who assured them of resolving them gradually.

DRIVE: Provincial health department is launching a three-day anti-polio drive from 22nd, during which health department workers would undertake a door-to-door campaign to administer polio drops to children up to five years of age, says a Press release of the health department here on Saturday.

According to programme, Quetta district has been divided into 25 zones with a supervisor for each and 655 teams have been constituted for the purpose.

The drive in Pashtunabad area would be launched from Jan 26.

ACCOUNTS: A meeting of the Ad hoc Public Accounts Committee held here on Saturday under the chairmanship of Balochistan Minister for Planning and Development, Malik Naeem Ahmad Khan, reviewed accounts of Leida, provincial assembly and MPA hostel and directed the officials concerned to speed up the pace of recovery.—APP
