KANDAHAR, Sept 23: Ten insurgents and an Afghan soldier were killed in an operation to arrest a top Taliban commander in southern Afghanistan, the US military said on Friday.

A soldier from the US-led coalition was also wounded in the operation on Thursday in Uruzgan province, the military said.

Coalition and Afghan troops came under attack by up to 20 small arms, heavy machine guns, mortar rounds and rocket-propelled grenades, the US military said in a statement. “Coalition and US close air support and US attack helicopters blasted enemy positions killing 10 combatants,” it said.—AFP
