Mistreating tourists

Published September 21, 2020

THE media has reported yet another incident of misbehaviour with tourists in Murree. There seems to be something drastically amiss with the locals of this hill station. Who in their right mind would resort to physical violence with the very people, who are their main source of income?

According to reports, in the latest the incident, a man and his family visiting the hill station were badly beaten by the employees of a restaurant they were patronising. The injuries that the unfortunate tourists who included women and children received were so severe that they needed medical treatment.

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in Murree. In the past few weeks, dozens of tourists have been insulted, abused and physically manhandled for flimsy reasons. The locals need to realise that once the tourists stop coming one of their major sources of income will dry up.

District authorities and the Punjab government should initiate an inquiry into the matter.
