ISLAMABAD, Sept 23: A sitting member of the National Assembly has submitted a writ petition to the court of Ilaqa magistrate, alleging that his political rivals were continuously threatening him and his family with dire consequences. Sheikh Waqas Akram, MNA form NA-89, Jhang and federal parliamentary secretary for the Economic Affairs Division, in his petition said that his political rivals were continuously threatening to kill him and his family members due to political rivalry.

The MNA nominated Sheikh Mohammad Yaqub, Sheikh Mohammad Yousaf, Sheikh Mohammad Hasnain, Sheikh Mohammad Ramzan, Sheikh Mohammad Ayub, Sheikh Mohammad Younas, Sheikh Mohammad Adnan, Sheikh Zafar Iqbal, Mohammad Arif Khan, DCO Jhang, and Hamid Mukhtar, DPO Jhang, as his tormentors. He said on a number of occasions attempts were made to take their life.

The petitioner said he had also informed the deputy inspector general of police Faisalabad and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad about the threats being received by him.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Akram said that his political rivals wanted that his father, Mohammad Akram, withdrew his nomination papers for the office of tehsil nazim in favour of Sheikh Mohammad Yaqub.
