GUJRAT: Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested members of a gang involved in preparing fake SIMs of various cell phone companies and getting these fraudulently registered through women’s fingerprints.

District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Farooq Salamat told reporters that Dinga police had got information about the presence of the suspects allegedly involved in fake SIMs scam near Mungowal.

The police kept an eye on their movement and finally raided their place and arrested the suspects, including Mumtaz Shah and Basharat Ali, while three others managed to escape, he added. Police recovered hundreds of fake SIMs from there, besides the material used in preparing and getting these registered through women’s fingerprints.

The DPO said these fake SIMs were then sold to criminals who would use these in heinous crimes like kidnapping for ransom and hurling threats at businessmen for extortion.

He said the gang members would keep on changing their residences to avoid arrest.
