BAJAUR: About 750 persons with disabilities received free treatment and medicines at a camp organised by a non-government organisation in Bajaur tribal district on Friday.

The camp was organised at civil colony Khar by the Association for Rehabilitation of the Physically Disabled (ARPD) under the outreach programme to treat the disabled persons in their home regions.

Talking to reporters, ARPD head Anjum Anwar said the organisation was striving to improve the lives of underdeveloped and vulnerable communities with special focus on persons with disabilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

She said the camp was aimed to provide free treatment and medicines to the persons with disabilities in the region and to evaluate their problems.

She said a team of doctors, medical specialists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists examined more than 750 disabled persons (both male and female) in the camp, the first such facility for the persons with disabilities in Bajaur.

Ms Anwar said some disabled persons were also referred to the NGO’s rehabilitation centre in Peshawar for further treatment.

She said her organisation planned to organise such camps in every part of the district.

Deputy commissioner Mohammad Fayyaz Khan also visited the camp and thanked ARPD for organising the facility for the disabled persons.

Talking to reporters, he said the district administration would extend support to NGOs willing to organise medical camps in the region.
