BAHAWALPUR: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested Bahawalnagar District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital former medical superintendent Dr Rana Imtiaz Ahmed in Rs10m corruption case after the Lahore High Court (LHC), Bahawalpur bench, refused to confirm his interim bail before arrest on Thursday.

The law officers of the assistant advocate general (AAG) office at the LHC bench confirmed the arrest of Dr Ahmed.

The ACE had registered a corruption case against MS but he had got the interim bail before arrest. The sources said Dr Ahmed had been shifted to Bahawalnagar for interrogation.

Meanwhile, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Special Secretary Ajmal Bhatti has initiated an inquiry to probe Bahawalnagar DHQ former MS Dr Rana Imtiaz Ahmed and former accountant Saeed Akhtar regarding the corruption scandal worth millions for overpricing, fake billing and embezzlement in government funds in general supply orders of the hospital.

According to details, the special secretary has given the task of the inquiry to Sahiwal Director Health Services Dr Sadiq Hussain and ordered him to submit a report within 90 days.

The inquiry pertains to the fiscal year 2016-17 for the fake billing of procurement of LP medicine worth Rs36m, medicine on excessive rates of up to Rs11m, corruption worth Rs1.6m in security fee for the bicycle stand of the hospital and Rs1.5m in government ambulances.
