KARACHI: A Chinese engineer and a local labourer died when they fell from the roof of a factory near Port Qasim on Saturday, officials said.

Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur said that the duo had gone to the roof of the PIT Lucky Sawan Plant where a part of the boiler collapsed and hit them.

The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for completing medico-legal formalities.

The deceased were identified as Zhang Hong and Mujahid Husain.

The SSP said that the area SHO visited the spot and the management informed him that it was an accident.

Clifton ‘suicide’ declared a murder

A medical board on Saturday conducted a fresh autopsy of a woman found dead in Clifton last week and concluded that she was murdered, according to officials.

Ms Lana, 53, was found dead in a bungalow in Clifton’s Block-5 on Sept 5. Initially, a female medico-legal officer of the JPMC declared that she had committed suicide by hanging herself.

However, the medical board differed from the initial findings of the first post-mortem examination and declared it a homicide.

Police Surgeon Dr Qarar Ahmed Abbasi said that the police expressed ‘doubts’ about the family’s version of the suicide and requested the health department for conducting another autopsy of the body.

Ms Lana’s body was kept at the Edhi morgue since Sept 5. The body was brought to the JPMC for a new post-mortem examination on Saturday.

The health department constituted a medical board led by Professor Farhat Mirza and comprising additional police surgeon Summaiya Syed, Dr Afshan and Dr Abbasi.

“The medical findings showed that it was a homicide not suicide,” police surgeon said, adding that the woman was strangulated with the help of a rope.

The police said that the deceased was a nurse who attended to Farooq Dossa. When Mr Dossa’s wife died around 15 years ago, he married Ms Lana.
