Lahore CCPO issued show-cause notice over remarks blaming rape victim: Buzdar

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Saturday said Inspector General of Police (IG) Inam Ghani issued a show-cause notice to Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Umer Sheikh over his remarks in which he shifted blame for on the victim of the Lahore motorway gang-rape victim.
Two ‘robbers’ allegedly raped a woman at gunpoint in Gujjarpura area on Wednesday while she was waiting for help on the motorway after her car developed a fault.
In his statement on the incident on Thursday, the CCPO implied that the victim shared responsibility for her rape. He claimed that the victim, who is a foreign national, thought it was safe to travel at night with her kids. He also said the victim was at fault for "choosing the route she took and not checking her petrol tank" before heading out.

Soon after the comment was made on a TV channel, Twitter burst with thousands of users demanding removal of the CCPO with trending hashtags such as #RemoveCCPOLahore and #DismissCCPOLahore.
During a press conference today to announce major investigation breakthroughs in the case, Chief Minister Buzdar, who was flanked by the IGP and two ministers, said the CCPO had given an "irrelevant statement".
"The IG has issued him a show-cause notice [for this statement] and directed him to submit a reply within seven days."
Buzdar added that legal action would be taken against the CCPO after the submission of his reply.

People here are smitten with what is going on in West. Freedom without responsibility. CCPO was wrong to open his mouth because this will cost him his job. But many many fathers,brothers,husbands, mothers, sisters and others who love their women,respect them and constantly worry about their well being, have sure wondered what was the lady thinking to go out in middle of night with children. Even in Western countries there are areas and roads where no body ventures in night like the lady did.

What if there is a vehicle break down or if driver is lost? Are you only a day time all far weather and safe environment Police force? Stop making excuses for your failures, corruption and incompetence as an institution. Get the criminals if you are willing to take responsibility and improve the law and order situation. Otherwise resign!

CCPO asked a simple question just like a father did to her daughter. Why at night? Even I could ask her why at night? So what is so bad in it? The lady was at the mistake she drive at night whereas the whole Punjab sleep at 10 o clock. But Lala ji what I believe is that PMLN is trying to remove CM Punjab and is behind this accident.

Very unfortunate the police must be appreciated for quickly reaching the criminals, instead show cause being issued to an officer, who just pointed out certain negligence happened. There is no justification on driving on highway without sufficient petrol. Such a carelessness can also result in fatal accident. It’s high time now that police must grab the criminals and brought to book. Not only the highways every citizen has right of protection anywhere.

This guy is a total " Village Paindoo ", he has total lack of gravity of the crime.
Should be appointed to " Incharge of Police Fleet / transport ", not in a job of people contact.
Very poor choice of govt.
CCPO Umer Sheikh is very Unprofessional in the 21st century to be a senior officer.

There is no justification for issuing show cause to the CCPO. He has not committed any wrong. He is a straightforward and capable office, therefore, he should be given a chance to do his duty.

This look like a police job. We may receive the dead bodies of the culprits very soon for the police cover up. This is the usual trend in such cases. Only police knew that a lonely well off lady is stuck up on Highway an easy prey for the rapist and robbers.

Buzdar Saheb: Teach our subordinates to speak official language of Pakistan, Urdu in a proper manner. Proper public speaking for an occasion is a craft and everyone should learn this craft. Lose talk is normal thing in Pakistan today. Prime minister to a chaprasi and all in between speaks as he or she pleases. We have to get where our parents were, I.e a civilized era.
