200 nazims, naibs to back PML candidates

GUJRANWALA, Sept 22: As many as 200 members of union councils, including nazims, their naibs and councillors, on Wednesday night announced their support for ruling PML aspirant for Khiali Town Nazim Chaudhry Asif Iqbal and District Nazim candidate Fiaz Ahmad Chattha.

The former is the son of Provincial Food Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal and the latter that of Hamid Nasir Chattha.

The elected representatives had announced their support at a dinner hosted by Asif Iqbal at a local marriage hall.

The food minister, Kashmir Committee chairman Hamid Nasir Chattha and his son were also present on occasion.

THEATRES: Licences of as many as eight theatres were cancelled by the Punjab home department on charges of promoting obscenity and issued a notification to this effect on Thursday.

SEIZED: Dhulley police claimed to have arrested three drug-traffickers and recovered a huge quantity of poppy from their possession after an encounter here on Thursday.

Reports said that DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq received information that some drug pushers had stored poppy in their godowns in Dhulley which was smuggled from Afghanistan.

On his directive, the SHO along with a police team conducted a raid at the residence of the accused. But the outlaws opened fire on them which was returned. After a brief shootout, the outlaws laid down their arms. The police arrested the three accused who were identified as Abbas Dogar, Abdul Ghafoor Khan and Mubarik Ali Khan. The raiding team also recovered 1,500 kilograms of poppy from their possession.
