KARACHI: A woman doctor was found murdered in her Bahadurabad home on Friday, police said.

They said that the partially decomposed body of a woman, later identified as Dr Amtullah, 58, was found from a house in Bahadurabad. The body had lain there for around three days. It was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Police Surgeon Qarar Ahmed Abbasi said that the post-mortem examination revealed signs of strangulation. Apparently, the victim was strangled, but doctors reserved the cause of death till the report of a chemical examiner to ascertain whether she was given poison before strangulation.

Dr Abbasi said that Amtullah Sheikha, daughter of Ghulam Abbas Kapadia, was a doctor by profession. She was a general surgeon and worked at different hospitals in the metropolis.

Quoting her doctor colleagues, the police surgeon said that she was single and lived alone in her home. She was a graduate of the Sindh Medical College in 1986.

Man commits suicide

A 60-year-old man committed suicide by shooting himself to death in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Friday, according to police.

They added that Imran Almani ended his life at his home near Perfume Chowk. The body was shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.

Sharea Faisal SHO Mohammed Sarwar alias Commando said the family told the police that the he was suffering from “tension” and ended his life by using his licensed pistol.

Five ‘muggers’ held

Pakistan Rangers, Sindh on Friday claimed to have arrested five suspects for their alleged involvement in street crimes and robberies.

The paramilitary force conducted intelligence-based actions in Liaquatabad and Cattle Colony and detained five suspects, said to be members of an extremely wanted dacoit gang, said a Rangers spokesperson.

They were identified as Jamil Ahmed, Salman, Shah Nawaz, Mohammed Shan and Sajid Ali.

During an initial probe, it transpired that this gang had been involved in street crimes in an organised manner. They not only committed street crimes, house robberies and looting of shops but they were also involved in robbing people who drew cash from banks and money changers, he said.

The spokesperson said that arms, ammunition, a motorbike, jewellery, cash, mobile phones and other looted valuables were recovered from their possession.

Security in city beefed up

Inspector General of Police Sindh Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar on Friday ordered extraordinary security measures at all important installations, all mosques and Imambargahs in the province.

A spokesperson for the police said that the directions were issued in the wake of Friday’s blast in Quetta.

Taking notice of media reports about the explosion in Balochistan’s capital, the Sindh police chief issued orders for beefed-up security. “All security steps at the provincial level should be strengthened further,” the IGP said.

Police patrolling, picketing and random snap-checking of vehicles should be made more effective, he said, directing SPs, DSPs and SHOs to ensure their presence in their respective jurisdictions.
