Nowshera Cup football

PESHAWAR, Sept 21: Gymkhana Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera and Nowshera Youth booked berths in the second round of the NWFP Nowshera Cup football after securing victories in the knockout round at Sheikh Farooq Stadium on Wednesday.

Gymkhana stars defeated Murad Club 2-1. Javed moved past three defenders, zoomed into the danger zone and slammed in a perfect goal. But the lead proved short-lived when Murad’s Imtiaz Ahmed tied it 1-1 through field attempt.

The teams remained tied at 1-1 throughout the first-half.

Gymkhana’s Jan Afzal broke the stalemate in the second-half by netting a goal and give his team win by converting a foul kick in front of the goalmouth.

Nowshera from Group ‘A’, Mardan from ‘B’, Nowshera Youth from ‘C’ and Gymkhana Peshawar from ‘D’ will now face Mujahid Peshawar, District Swat, Malakand and District Kohat in the second round.—APP
