HARIPUR: A man accused of subjecting his newlywed wife to domestic violence and shaving her head off has been sent to Haripur jail on judicial remand, police said on Saturday.

The woman, however, accused the police of favouring the accused and not incorporating the relevant sections of laws in the FIR.

The Saddar police quoted the woman, 20, of Pind Hasham Khan area as saying that she was married to Shakil Ahmed of the same village about a month ago.

She said during the first week of their marriage, the man started subjecting her to thrashing over trivial issues.

About two weeks ago, she said she tried to flee back to her parents’ houses, but her husband locked her up in a room and did not allow her out.

She said that two days ago, her husband came back home and again subjected her to severe beatings, and when she attempted to resist and demanded divorce, he shaved her head off with a razor and burnt her skull with cigarette butts.

The victim said her crying attracted the attention of neighbours who informed her parents, but by then, the accused had forced her out of his home.

Later, the victim approached the Saddar police.

According to the police, the medical report of the victim did not favour her accusations about beating, injuring and burning, so a criminal case under section 337 (v) was registered against the accused.

Meanwhile, ASI Amir Khan, the investigation officer, said the victim had recorded her statement under section 164 of CrPC before duty magistrate on Saturday, reiterating that she was subjected to severe torture.

He said following the statement of the victim before the duty magistrate, the sections of laws would be incorporated in the case after taking legal advice from the district public prosecutor on Monday.
