TAXILA: Hassanabdal’s Sikh community celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day at Gurdwara Panja Sahib on Thursday. The event was organised by Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in collaboration with the Punjabi Sikh Sanghat.

Local members of the Sikh and Hindu communities including children and the elderly, participated in a flag-hoisting and cake cutting ceremony. They sang national songs and waved banners and flags on the occasion.

Sardar Gopal Singh Chawla, leader of the Sikh community, said that their forefathers rendered great sacrifices for independence, and it was a result of these sacrifices that they were living in an independent country.

He said the Sikh community will stand with the security forces against any foreign enemy. They also offered special prayers for prosperity and peace.
