MIRPURKHAS: Shocked members of a family along with scores of other people went on the rampage at a major hospital here on Thursday night after a patient died allegedly due to serious negligence of doctors and hospital staff.

Outraged men and women, numbering close to 100, smashed the glass doors, windowpanes, furniture and fixtures and shouted at the management and staff of the medical college hospital, located along Mirpurkhas-Hyderabad Road. The medical and paramedical staff had to flee the hospital before the management called in the area police to bring the situation under control.

The bereaved family told the police that they had brought Mohammad Shabbir, 40, for treatment of difficulty in breathing. He was examined by a surgeon, who referred the case to another doctor, they said. However, they alleged, a wrong injection was administered to the patient causing his death minutes later.

The police pacified the charged protesters and persuaded them to stop their violent reaction.
