HYDERABAD, Sept 20: The Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has said that unnecessary delay in the repair of Super Highway was affecting production of the country. In a press statement, the president of the chamber, Mehmood Ahmed, said that the repair work had started one year ago and had not been completed yet.

It should have been completed in two weeks as the road was damaged at two places of seven kilometres only, he said.

Mr Ahmed said Karachi was an industrial city whose exports and imports depend largely on the Super Highway.

He said that it was mandatory to provide a proper alternative track before starting the repair work according to the international highway construction rules.

The track provided by the contractor for alternative

use was totally unfit as large vehicles bog down in mud which put human lives in danger, he said.

The chamber president said that the construction work on highways was always carried round the clock all over the world to ensure timely completion to avoid financial losses to economy.

He appealed to the Sindh chief minister, Sindh governor and the federal minister for communication to ensure that the work should be completed without any further delay.

SHOE-STALLS: In another statement the president of the chamber has appealed to the Sindh chief minister, governor, chief secretary and Hyderabad DCO and DPO to order removal of shoe stalls set up at the entrance of eight trading centres in Hyderabad.
