LAHORE: A man facing the murder charge was gunned down on Monday outside a courtroom at the sessions court allegedly by the complainant party.

Shahdara police had registered a case against Muhammad Nawaz on charges of killing his relative, Javed, over a property dispute.

Nawaz arrived at the sessions court for hearing of his petition for pre-arrest bail in the case. He was about to enter the courtroom when the assailant appeared and shot him in the head.

Nawaz died on the spot while the killer escaped without facing any resistance from the security personnel deputed on the court’s premises.

Later, Capital City Police Officer Zulfiqar Hameed along with other senior police officers reached the sessions court and inspected the crime scene. He met the Lahore Bar Association’s office-bearers and discussed the loopholes in the security arrangements in and outside the sessions court.

The LBA leaders condemned the incident and the police failure to ensure security of the citizens on the court’s premises.

The CCPO assured the bar of early arrest of the culprit with the help of the CCTV footage. The officer also issued orders for foolproof security arrangements at district courts in the city.
