ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal has said that the bureau’s focus is on ensuring logical conclusion of all mega corruption cases.

In a statement issued on Sunday, he said that since its inception, NAB had recovered Rs466 billion, describing it as a great achievement.

He said NAB had received 53,643 complaints. Of these, he said, the bureau processed 42,760 last year, whereas complaints registered in 2018 were 48,591. Of these complaints, 41,414 were processed.

Last year, NAB processed 1,308 complaint verifications, 1,686 inquiries and 609 investigations and recovered Rs141.542bn from corrupt elements.

The chairman said that NAB’s motto is a corruption-free Pakistan and to achieve this objective, an anti-corruption strategy for creation of awareness, prevention and enforcement had been made.

He said that NAB was committed to eradicating corruption by utilising all resources in all forms and manifestations.

Justice Iqbal said that NAB had introduced a new concept of combine investigation team to benefit from the experience and collective wisdom of senior supervisory officers.

He said that NAB had established a state-of-the-art forensic science laboratory at its Rawalpindi bureau office.

In 2019, he said, 15,747 documents and 300 thumb impressions had been analysed in 50 cases and forensic analysis carried out on 74 digital devices.
