MURREE: The Punjab government has formally approved Kohsar University for Murree and issued a notification in this regard.

The notification said government boys degree college, government girls degree college, Resource Centre at Kashmir Point, Punjab House and about 86 kanals of government land at Brewery Murree would be used for the Kohsar University.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had announced a university for Murree and its adjoining areas of Hazara, Kotli Sattiyan and Kashmir, during his election campaign while addressing a public rally in 2013.

But that announcement could not be materialized during his tenure. When Shahid Khaqan Abbasi became prime minister, as he was elected member National Assembly from Murree, he expedited the process of establishing the university.

During Mr Khaqan’s tenure as prime minister an amount of Rs300 million was approved for the university but despite a progress in execution process the university could not be established on ground.

Now a formal notification has been issued.

Once university formally starts functioning people from Murree, Hazara and other adjoining areas would benefit from it.
