NOWSHERA: Jamaat-i-Islami workers on Monday took out a rally and blocked the GT Road to protest unemployment, dearness and ‘corruption’ in government departments.

The rally was led by JI provincial emir Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan and Nowshera chapter office-bearers. The protesters marched through different streets and reached Shobera Chowk.

The participants carried placards and banners inscribed with different slogans against the government.

On the occasion, Senator Mushtaq Khan insisted that Prime Minister Imran Khan was working against his pledge made with the people during the general elections, and sacking employees instead of giving the promised 10 million jobs.

He said unemployment rate was increasing with each passing day, adding industries were being closed.

On one hand, the coronavirus pandemic has destroyed the purchasing power of the people, while on the other hand, the government’s ‘anti-people’ policies are making life difficult for the masses, he claimed.

Senator Mushtaq declared that poor policies of the government had brought the country’s economy on the verge of collapse.

He alleged that the government had appointed blue-eyed persons in departments, undermining merit. He said road infrastructure in the country was in dire straits.
