KARACHI: The Pak Sarzameen Party on Sunday lashed out at the Sindh government, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, K-Electric and other civic bodies for failing to deal with just an hour of rain that had paralysed life in the metropolis.

The PSP had on Saturday announced that it would hold a protest demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club against the Sindh government on Sunday and in this regard all preparations were completed and PSP President Anis Kaimkhani was himself present at the venue since early Sunday morning and after the downpour he announced postponement of the event.

Speaking to his workers gathered outside the KPC, Mr Kaimkhani said that just one hour of rain had played havoc with the civic life in the entire city, which had been submerged in rainwater and sewage because of the incompetence of the “corrupt provincial and local governments”.

He said that sewage had entered people’s houses from overflowing drains because the de-silting exercise was not completed before this year’s monsoon.

Criticising the KE, he said that a few drops of rains were always sufficient to plunge the city into darkness. He said that the poor and faulty transmission and distribution system of the KE gave rise to the fears of electrocution.

“The Sindh government, the local government and the KE are minting money from the poor residents of Karachi,” he said.

He said that because of all these reasons the PSP was organising a protest demonstration and not only its workers but the people of Karachi were ready to attend it but due to rain the party had to postpone its event.

He said that the protest demonstration would be held as soon as the rain spells ended.
