KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Wednesday referred a case against a policeman for allegedly making an attempt on the life of a doctor on the premises of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases to an antiterrorism court for trial.

The investigating officer filed charge sheets against constable Kamran, posted at CTD Civil Lines, for the offences of attempted murder and illicit weapon while the prosecutor in his scrutiny note also said that duty doctor Fahad Hussain was shot at and wounded by the suspect on June 18 and then he fled from the spot under the cover of firing, which spread panic in the hospital.

Judicial magistrate (South) Abdul Ahad Memon in his order said that such an offence committed against a duty doctor inside the government hospital had created fear and insecurity among the public, patients, doctors and attendants in the NICVD.

As per the material brought on record, it appears that all ingredients under Section 6 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 were available in the present case, the magistrate said and returned the charge sheets and other documents to the IO and directed him to file the same before the court having jurisdiction of ATC.

The charge sheets said the suspect had asked the doctor for sleeping pills saying he had not slept for three days, but the doctor did not give him the medicine.
