SUKKUR: The FIA cybercrime circle, Sukkur, on Saturday arrested a man and took his laptop, mobile phones and other electronic devices in custody for investigation into allegation against him that he had been blackmailing his ex-wife for many months.

The woman’s brother approached the FIA’s cybercrime circle by filing an application against the suspect prompting the investigation agency to lay hands on him.

He quoted the woman as saying that her former husband had been using the fake ID to blackmail her. He said that a case had now been registered against him under the relevant sections of the cybercrime laws and he would be produced in a court for remand.

The cybercrime circle was informed by the applicant that the suspect had married his sister some 18 months ago and divorced her just 20 days later. During the relationship, he filmed private moments. He added that after divorcing her, the suspect resorted to blackmailing her by threatening to upload the video clips on the social media.

The complainant said that after getting fed up with his blackmailing, she some days ago stopped coming to his terms. This annoyed the suspect and he resorted to uploading the videos on the social media using a fake ID.

FIA Sukkur cybercrime circle assistant director Amjad Abbasi said the woman was a relative of the suspect and a schoolteacher by profession.

The suspect is a resident of the Thermal Colony area of Old Sukkur, he added.

Child abuse suspect remanded

KHAIRPUR: The suspect who was arrested on Friday on the charges of abusing his several students, uploading videos of the assaults on the social media, was produced in the Khairpur Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday to seek his remand.

The police had sought the suspect’s 14-day remand but the ATC judge granted two day’s remand for interrogation.

The suspect was taken to the court in an armoured personnel carrier (APC) guarded by a strong police contingent as he was said to have been involved in many cases of heinous crime registered against him.

The suspect, a retired schoolteacher, was currently running a private tuition centre where several students were criminally assaulted and were being blackmailed by the suspect, according to parents of the victims.

Four cases were registered against him at the Thari Mirwah police station on Friday.
