DHAKA, Sept 16: The police, education, health, local government and communication are the most corrupt sectors in Bangladesh, according to a report of the local chapter of the Berlin-based Transparency International.

The Corruption Database for 2004, launched at the National Press Club on Thursday, found that in terms of corruption, the police secured the top position. The communication sector secured the top position in terms of the volume of corruption.

The report, analysing 18 national and seven local newspapers of last year, found that 1,754 reports of corruption were published, causing the country to incur a loss of 4.15 billion takas.

The TIB treasurer, Prof Muzaffer Ahmad, said the findings suggest that the state of corruption remains unchanged.
