HYDERABAD, Sept 15: More than 40 huts were completely or partially damaged in Aliabad village when a 20-foot breach occurred in one of the two water settlement tanks in Latifabad on late Wednesday night. The storage capacity of the tank is five million gallons daily.

The villagers were sleeping when four to six feet of water entered their mud-houses. They shifted their household items to near by homes of their relatives.

Police and Rangers rushed to the place to plug the breach and help the effected people.

EDO revenue Abdul Sattar Jatoi visited the site, while the activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement and nazim of the union council-five Mohammad Ehsan took part in rescue work.

Wasa officials closed water supply to the tanks to stop further outflow of water. They were not sure about the actual cause of the breach. People along with the officials succeeded in plugging the breach by Thursday morning.

Mr Ehsan said that people had refused to shift to the primary school and opted to live with their relatives.
