ISLAMABAD: India has requested Pakistan for a copy of the Court judgment sentencing two Indian nationals to death for espionage and facilities for an official of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad to interview the condemned. According to Indian Press reports, the request was made on July 1 during the interview between the Indian Foreign Secretary Mr Kewai Singh and the Pakistan High Commissioner Mr Sajjad Hyder, at the former’s request.

The Indians — Madanial and Krishna — were apprehended in Sialkot area after the 1965 war and charged under the Enemy Agents Ordinance for spying.

A statement issued by the Foreign Office here today [July 9] said that while promising to transmit the Indian request to his Government the High Commissioner pointed out that the facilities sought by India were denied to Pakistan in the past. He said in a similar case involving a Pakistani national, Pakistan’s 13 Notes since January this year to the Government of India and its High Commission in Islamabad and many more verbal demarches and informal telephonic approaches to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs went entirely unheeded. — Agency
