LAKKI MARWAT: Lakki Marwat district education officer Mohammad Illyas Khan Khattak on Monday appointed four male physical education teachers and five drawing masters.

An official said the induction of new teachers would help overcome the shortage of teaching staff in the middle, high and higher secondary schools.

The official said the newly-appointed teachers had been directed to take the charge in their respective schools within 15 days.

BIRDS SEIZED: The wildlife department on Monday foiled a bid to smuggle chicks of precious birds to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

After receiving information about the smuggling attempt, a team headed by range officer Mir Aslam Khan tightened checking of vehicles and individuals at Wanda Banochi checkpost near Darra Pezu town, said an official.

He said the team intercepted a suspected vehicle coming from DI Khan, and during checking seized young birds from it.

The official said the seized birds included two chicks of ostrich, six chicks of red-legged partridge and a chick of peacock.

The team booked illegal carriers under the Wildlife and Biodiversity Act and shifted the chicks to the quarantine centre at the wildlife park, the official said.

SHOPS SEALED: The district administration officials on Monday sealed several shops over violation of Covid-19-induced SOPs in Lakki and Naurang towns.

On the directives of deputy commissioner Abdul Haseeb, additional assistant commissioners Aminullah Khan and Najibullah Khan paid surprise visits to the bazaars to check observance of SOPs by the business community.

The officials sealed six shops, and issued warnings to a number of shopkeepers for failing to implement measures to help contain spread of coronavirus.

The additional assistant commissioners also checked availability of official price list in shops. They asked the traders to avoid profiteering and hoarding.
